Royal encounters

When I am riding bicycles in foreign countries, and people of an elderly nature yell at me in languages that I do not understand, I do not let it confuse or upset me.

Rather, I adopt a simple and effective strategy.

I merely pretend that I am Kate Middleton, and that they are fanatic royalists desperate to express their keen regard for me.

I smile gratefully, offer them a little royal wave, and sail on...

...happy in the knowledge that I have made their day, and they will probably go home and tell their grandchildren about our little meeting.

Were you, perchance, so Kate Middletonish that you were riding your bicycle on the left side of the road?

We royals think we own the road...
